My fiancé and I just moved into our first home together in May of 2020. Ever since we toured our home for the first time, we knew that the bathroom would be our first project. Well, 4 months in and the makeover began. The before and after of our bathroom makeover is amazing and I love how it turned out.
The Before
The dark walls, floors, and vanity were not our style. We also wanted a larger vanity with drawers, so the small, two-door vanity had to go. After thinking of some different layouts, we decided to open up the closet and move the toilet in there. Then, to open up the room a little more, we decided to add a built-in shelf for more storage/decor.
Thankfully, we had a large closet in the hallway on the other side of the wall where we planned to do the built-in shelf. We were able to put a wall up and still have that hallway closet, just half the depth.
We had our cabinet and shelf built by a carpenter so there wasn’t much for us to do other than wait!
The after
The first thing to do if you are wanting the appearance of a bigger room is to pick a light paint colour. I decided on Swiss Coffee by Benjamin Moore; the perfect off-white colour. We painted the kitchen, dining room, living room, and hallways this colour, so obviously, I knew I would love this colour in the bathroom. I also knew I wanted a light and neutral floor. For many years, I always thought I would go with a fun tile shape and pattern, but we ended up going with a luxury vinyl tile. Very happy with our decision!
Unfortunately, I lost the colour swatch for our cabinet colour. I was just walking down the paint aisle in Home Depot and this colour swatch caught my eye. I quickly fell in love with it! It’s the most beautiful blue/green colour. I ended up going with all gold accents and they mix so perfectly together!
When I was thinking about the built-in shelf, I was planning on going with the same paint colour as the walls so it would blend in. Silly us… we forgot to tell the carpenter and he painted it the same colour as our vanity. Fortunately for us, we ended up loving it! It adds a fun pop of colour in that corner and looks so good with the stained wood.
We still have to find a few more decor pieces, but other than that, we can check our first project off our renovation list. So, what’s next on our list? Building a pantry!
