I’m back with another DIY home project. My husband built this beautiful and cozy DIY electric fireplace by himself! I got some inspiration from Pinterest and then made my own sketch of what I wanted. I knew I didn’t want a basic, symmetrical-looking fireplace; I wanted to add some uniqueness to this wall. We wanted a floating bench on one side that would carry on over the brick and two floating shelves on the other side. Lucas did such an amazing job and I am so thankful for him bringing my vision to life!
To start, we needed to figure out measurements. We based the measurements of the fireplace frame on our tv. We already had a 52-inch tv, so we knew to go a couple of inches extra on both sides. The next step was to buy a fireplace. I knew I wanted a fireplace that was similar in size to our tv. We decided to go with a 50-inch recessed wall-mounted electric fireplace.
Lucas and I both knew we wanted brick, so it was time to look for options and pricing. We both agreed on versetta stone (sand) and ordered it.
While waiting for the brick, Lucas framed everything out and made sure the frame would be nice and sturdy. We also added an electric outlet behind the tv so there would be no wires showing from the tv/fireplace.
Lucas measured, cut, and stained the plywood for the bench. To secure it, he used a nail gun and wood glue (for the front pieces). Next, he added the brick, the trickiest and most time-consuming part. Finally, it was time to mount the tv/speaker and insert the fireplace!
I was so excited to hang our wedding pictures and decorate! Here’s the final result of our DIY electric fireplace! I love how it turned out.
I can’t believe how much this wall changed. It went from bare and boring, to warm and cozy.
