After many months, I am finally sharing our DIY custom farmhouse pantry! This was kind of an unexpected renovation project. We knew we wanted a pantry eventually, but my fiance and I were planning to wait a year or so. We were in the middle of bathroom renovations, painting the entire house, and laying floors… so we thought we might as well get into another mess and start the pantry! To make the pantry, we needed to tear down a wall and build a wall, so having the seam filler and electrician already there was convenient for us. My fiance did everything else which saved us a ton of money! He’s such a hard worker and I’m so appreciative of him. He made my pantry dream come to life!
The Before
Ok, so to try and give you a picture of the layout, I added some pictures above. While we were in the midst of painting the dining room, we took out this beautiful cabinet. Once it was out, we realized how large the space was and that it could be enough room for a small pantry. On the opposite side (the kitchen/hallway), we wanted the door, so that meant building a wall up on the dining room side and framing out the door on the kitchen side. Now that you have an idea of what’s going on, let’s get to the reveal!

The pantry Door
Farmhouse style sliding barn door
My fiance made this beautiful sliding barn door! I was going to try and explain how he built the door but it’s just a lot of measurements and steps that I am not qualified to explain lol. The only thing I know is that he made it out of MDF and the paint color is Decorator’s White by Benjamin Moore. I ordered the 6.6 ft barn door sliding track hardware kit here and the handle here. I love the look of black accents. We’ll be adding black light fixtures and door handles throughout the house so it will all blend in nicely.
The Pantry
For the bottom pantry shelving, Lucas used 16-inch shelving. The top shelf and tower were 12 inches. We have some big kitchen appliances such as a slow cooker, air fryer, and a toaster oven and we knew we wanted to put those in the pantry. Also, we put in an electric outlet so we could put those appliances on the countertop, plug them in and leave them in there! I saw a beautiful countertop online but due to Covid and living on an island, the bridge was closed for delivery. My lovely fiance decided to make the countertop and he did such an amazing job! Again, I’m not going to be very specific about how he made it because I was not there. Simple explanation: he glued and clamped wood pieces together, sanded, stained, and then varnished the countertop.
Final DIY custom farmhouse Pantry reveal
The final reveal! I’m still looking around for some food storage bins for the top shelves and bottom side two shelves. Other than that, it’s pretty much done! Amazon is the perfect place to look to fill up your pantry with cute storage containers to make it look so aesthetically pleasing!
Pantry Products
Bamboo Lid Glass Containers – They came in a pack of four and in different sizes. I ordered two of them so I could have a total of eight. These are great storage containers for pasta, breadcrumbs, barley, flaxseeds, etc.
Steel Bin With Wood Handles – So so cute! I couldn’t resist buying them once I saw them. They are perfect for onions, potatoes, and other veggies.
The Dude Diet – I purchased this healthy recipe book for my fiance for Christmas because he’s always in the kitchen trying out new recipes. We only tried a few recipes but the appetizers and meals we did try were great! The book also adds a cute element for the pantry. I am hoping to add a few more recipe books throughout the year!
Double Cereal Dispenser – Another Christmas gift for my fiance. While I was in the kitchen section on Amazon looking for a few extra gifts for Lucas, I came across this cereal dispenser. It’s a very strange and funny gift because it’s not something we need and it’s very random lol. It also reminded me of being at a hotel which I thought was fun. We always laugh about it now. I always say it’s more of a gift for myself because I get so excited about it when I see it in the pantry. It brings me back to my childhood memories of staying at hotels for trips and hockey tournaments.
