Where to stay
After Lucas and I got married, we wanted to get off Prince Edward Island and have a mini honeymoon. Thanks to Covid, we weren’t able to go far, so we decided to go to one of the nearest provinces and splurge a little on our stay. This beautiful place is located in Rosebay, Nova Scotia, roughly 10 minutes outside of Lunenburg. It was right on the water and had no close neighbors. There was a hot tub, fire pit, BBQ, kayak, and paddleboat. A perfect summer vacation destination. I will link the Airbnb we stayed at here. Most weekends are booked up and other dates book up quite fast, so plan ahead of time if you would like to stay here!
This cottage is pretty brand new, so all the appliances and decor are nice and modern.
I loved waking up to this beautiful view!!! So much sunlight!
The Ovens
Our favorite place on our little getaway was The Ovens Natural Park. Also, it was a quick 5-minute drive to get to the park from our Airbnb! It was such a unique hiking trail with beautiful cliffs and sea caves. The trail was short and easy making it a great hike for kids. There is a fee of $11/adult (2021 rates).
Although it is a short hike, you may want to wear comfy shoes or sneakers. My thin flip-flops were not a great option. As the hike is pretty much all rock, I could feel the little rocks at each step.
The pictures below show stairs that lead right into a cave! Such a unique experience.
You can also pay to get a guided kayaking tour! This will allow you to get a closer look at the caves. Lucas was really wishing we had done this. The fee (for the 2021 season) was $60 plus taxes.
Town of lunenburg
Lunenburg is a charming waterfront town with many colorful buildings. We enjoyed walking around the town and discovering some cute shops.
Lightship Brewery is a new place that I highly recommend you check out! There is also the Barn Shop (Coffee Shop) and Sea Jay’s for food all in the same area! It has the best views of the town with picnics tables and seats. It is a great place to try some local beer, food, and hang out on a nice summer day/night!
Sweet Treasures Confectionery is a great place to stop if you are looking for something sweet. We got ice cream and M&M fudge to try and it was SO tasty.
My husband (a lobster fisherman) REALLY enjoyed this town if you can tell by the pictures below. We also checked out the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic. We’re not really museum people, but we actually enjoyed it and learned quite a bit.
Peggy’s Cove
We planned to go visit Peggy’s Cove on our way to Lunenburg but, unfortunately, the weather was not in our favor. While we were in Lunenburg, we had some free time, so we decided to do a quick day trip. 1 hour and 15 minutes later we made it to the famous Peggy’s Cove.
It is definitely the most photographed lighthouse in Nova Scotia. Peggy’s Cove is a cute fishing town with beautiful granite rocks!
Thanks for checking out this blog post sharing what to do in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia! It is such a beautiful and peaceful town that everyone should check out.
